What adjectives can be used to describe the work you do?
Storytelling is a description to summarize my paintings. I like to use a variety of mediums and
subjects to make impressions of mood and thought.

Who influenced your style?
I have been very fortunate to study with many excellent artists. Maxine Masterfield is an artist
who influenced me greatly. I had four days of private lessons with her in Sarasota.
Pat Dews, Mark Mehaffey, Kathleen Conover, Jean Haines and many more inspired me to be creative and
experimental.

What are typical tasks you might perform to create a new piece?
To create a new piece, I sketch the idea, creating studies in multiple forms. Then I decide on texture and figure out the tools to use. Once I have a general idea of the direction I’m headed, I just go for it. Many times, the end result is an unexpected evolution from the original sketch.

Where do you get your inspiration?
I enjoy spending time outdoors whether hiking or gardening or traveling back roads. Also, I find old buildings or machinery very interesting and try to capture their character in my artwork.

What message does your work convey?
This world is such a beautiful place and is something we all need to appreciate. The lights anddarks, shadows, textures, lines, and angles speak to me. I paint to try to convey this to othersand bring joy to the viewer.

What makes your art unique?
I love value and texture. My acrylic pours are unique. They have abstract qualities; however, in
most a subject will emerge. Several have no brush strokes except my signature.
In my watercolors, I like to capture the effects of light on a subject.
Since I have been painting a long time, I like to try new techniques and play with my paint in experimental ways.

What specific visuals do you prefer to convey in your work?
Being a native of Tennessee, I’ve always appreciated the beauty of the rural countryside around me. That, along with my love of travel, inspires me to paint landscapes in a way that I hope is interesting and contemporary, while paying respect to the beauty of my subjects. My desire is to create meaningful pieces full of color and design that are timeless when mixed in any range
of decorating styles. I truly believe that artwork is the heart and soul of every home.

What influences the style and subject of your work?
My engineering aptitude and training gives me a realistic style while my environmental engineer career provides subjects from nature.

Where do you get your inspiration?
I get my inspiration from God’s creation – mostly animals but also everything else. If I find
something that evokes an emotional response from me, I have found that my paintings will usually touch others too.

I create art with no brushes. People and animals are my love.

My work is creative, colorful, expressive. I take great pleasure in finding little meaningful areas in my overall patterns.

Who influenced your style?
My father was a photographer in India during WW2. He gave me an old Brownie camera and let me learn on my own. We had a spiritual connection through photography..

What makes you art unique?
I am a decorative and functional artist.Being a tactile person, I use texture as an element of my designs. The love of nature is incorporated in my creations as well as my love of birds.

What influences the style and subject of your work?
I’m not an artist but i love wood. I love the colors and designs in the grain. Colors may fade but more grain means more interest in the final pieces.

Who influenced your style?
My work is influenced by my collection of pottery which other artists have created.I enjoy creating very rustic pottery pieces.

What makes your art unique?
Janice Sumler inspires me with her realism. I love using her techniques to paint landscapes and flowers and my final piece gives me great joy.

What are typical tasks you might perform to create a new piece?
I love rising to the challenge of crafting unique pieces with silver and precious stones. I use silver smithing practices to figure out what steps are required and develop skills to create a masterpiece.

What are your favorite tools?
My work is done using watercolor, acrylic paints and markers.
Many of my pieces are done using patterned shapes which I cut into other shapes and combine to make collages.
My favorite subjects are ladies. My grandmother was a hat maker. I like making up hats, glasses, lips to create unique and colorful ladies.
