Hello, I'm Paula Prather Woody and I'm an artist from West Tennessee. Although I was born in Colorado Springs, I grew up on a farm in Tennessee, above Reelfoot Lake. I went to college at the University of Tennessee at Martin and Memphis State University. I didn't start painting seriously until my kids were in school.
I'm a member of the Memphis-Germantown Art League, The Jackson Art Association, and the Gibson County Visual Arts Association, plus a few others. I've been in a lot of juried shows in the Mid-South, had some solo shows by invitation, and won some awards, too. People have my work in private, public, and corporate collections around the country and the world.
I studied with some famous folks like Phyllis Bailey, Cecilia Lin, Tom Lynch, Barbara Neches, Lafayette Ragsdale, and Lynda Lyle Tate.
After living in Memphis, Tennessee for over 20 years and raising my family there, I moved back to my roots in an orchard community near Troy, Tennessee. In my home studio, “Apple Blossom Arts,” I paint and teach both oil and watercolor painting.
I use lots of pretty colors to show the beauty of God’s creation. I do flowers, landscapes, scenes of children playing on a garden path, mountains, cotton fields, dogwoods, magnolias, birds, and butterflies. Some have deckled edges. I use oil, watercolor, and mixed water media of nature scenes.
