Christina S. Butchko’s work begins with a question: What if this could be different? That question, which first appeared in childhood as she reworked the things around her—especially shoes—into forms that felt more her, continues to drive her creativity today. Now a silversmith based in Tennessee, Christina transforms sheets of silver and strands of wire into bold, wearable works of art.
Born and raised in Hawaii, with creative roots that stretch through Colorado, California, and now the South, Christina is a lifelong maker. Though she never pursued formal training, her knowledge has been built through hands-on experimentation, years of exploration in quilting and box-making, and meaningful relationships with stone vendors and gem cutters from around the world. Her materials—moonstone from India, turquoise from China, and pearls from trusted sources—are hand-selected and often custom-cut for her one-of-a-kind designs.
Her jewelry is known for its vibrant stones, strong forms, and the sense of personality it brings to the wearer. She works intuitively, sometimes sketching, sometimes simply beginning and following where the metal and stone lead her. When a piece gets “stuck,” she sets it aside until the next creative flash comes—knowing that the solution always appears when the mind is given room to roam.
Christina creates in a range of workspaces—from her indoor studio to a heavy-equipment shed and even the garage for big, messy projects. She always has several pieces in progress at once, believing that creative flow is best served by flexibility and freedom.
Her work is currently represented in two galleries, and she offers custom pieces on request, with a focus on clear communication and shared vision. She’s also eager to teach beginner jewelry techniques and pass along the joy of shaping silver into something lasting.
Each piece Christina creates is infused with a sense of curiosity, play, and discovery. She doesn’t follow rules—she follows her instinct. The result is adornment that’s truly personal: full of life, story, and spark.
“There’s no right or wrong way to do your art. That’s the joy of it.”
